The Cuthbert Catwatch Society and the Mystery at Lokey Lake

Is The night was cool, the moon casting silver light over Cuthbert, Georgia. From her usual perch on the edge brick wall, Boo watched as Willow and Midnight slunk through the shadows below. Their mission tonight was unusual—there had been reports of a stray dog near Lokey Lake, and the Catwatch Society needed to investigate.

“We’re wasting time,” Midnight grumbled. “Dogs aren’t our problem.”

“Boo thinks it’s important,” Willow replied with a flick of her tail. “And you know she’s always right.”

Boo leapt down gracefully. “If a stray dog is roaming near the lake, it could become a danger to the neighborhood. We need to know what we’re dealing with.”

“Or,” Spot chimed in, trotting up beside them, “maybe he’s just lost and needs help!”

Midnight rolled his eyes, but Boo had already taken off toward Lokey Lake, leaving the others to follow.

A New Encounter at Lokey Lake

The lake was quiet, the water reflecting the moonlight. As the cats crept closer, a rustling sound caught their attention. In a flash, a small, energetic calico cat leapt out of the grass, landing right in front of Boo.

“HI!” the young cat chirped, eyes wide with excitement.

Midnight bristled. “Who—what—where did you come from?”

A tiny Chihuahua darted out next, barking furiously. “Nosey! Get away from them! You don’t know who they are!”

Boo remained composed, her gaze sharp. “Who are you?”

The calico puffed up proudly. “I’m Nosey! And this is Pequeña. We live near the lake!”

Pequeña, still jittery, muttered, “We used to live in peace until that big stray dog showed up.”

“Ah,” Boo said, exchanging a glance with Midnight and Willow. “So the reports were true.”

Nosey nodded eagerly. “We saw him earlier today! He’s big and kinda scruffy. I think he’s nice, but Pequeña says he’s dangerous.”

“I don’t trust anything that big,” Pequeña huffed.

Spot stepped forward, his tail flicking. “Where did you last see him?”

Nosey turned, pointing a paw toward the trees by the water’s edge. “Over there.”

Boo nodded. “Then that’s where we’re going.”

Nosey’s Big Leap

Before they could move, Pequeña let out a yelp. “Wait! Wait! There’s a log in the way!”

She gestured to a large, fallen tree that stretched across the path leading toward the woods. It was too wide to crawl under and too thorny along the sides to squeeze through easily.

Nosey’s eyes lit up. “Ooooh, I got this!”

Before anyone could ask what she meant, the little calico crouched low, wiggled her tail, and then—BOOM! She launched herself high into the air, flipping once before landing gracefully on the other side.

Midnight’s jaw dropped. “What… was that?”

Willow laughed. “That was amazing!”

Spot cheered, “Whoa! Do it again!”

Nosey beamed. “I love to jump!”

Pequeña sighed. “Yeah, she does this all the time.”

Boo’s eyes glinted with approval. “Impressive. Let’s move.”

As the others worked their way over or around the log, Nosey bounced excitedly. “Did you see? Did you see how high I went?”

Midnight muttered, “She’s too happy. I don’t trust it.”

Willow just grinned. “I think she’s fun.”

Boo, leading the way, had already made up her mind—Nosey was a natural fit for the Catwatch Society.

Finding Rusty

The group moved carefully through the trees, their eyes scanning the darkness. It didn’t take long before they spotted him—curled up under a tree, his fur matted, his ribs faintly visible beneath his thick coat. His tired brown eyes watched them cautiously.

Spot, never one for subtlety, trotted right up. “HELLO!”

The dog flinched but didn’t move. “You… talk?”

Midnight sighed. “Everyone reacts like that.”

Boo stepped forward. “You’re alone.”

The dog lowered his head. “My human left me here. Drove off and never came back.”

Nosey gasped. “That’s terrible!”

Pequeña, despite her earlier fear, looked him over. “You… you really don’t have anywhere to go?”

Rusty shook his head.

Boo considered for a moment, then gave a decisive nod. “Then we’re taking you to town. We’ll find you a home.”

Rusty blinked. “You’d do that? For me?”

Spot grinned. “That’s what we do!”

A New Home for Rusty

Guiding Rusty into town wasn’t easy, but the Catwatch Society worked together. Boo led the way, while Midnight and Willow scouted ahead. Nosey and Pequeña, now fully invested in the mission, stayed close, offering encouragement.

When they reached the town square, Boo’s sharp eyes landed on their best chance—a kind woman who often fed strays.

“Spot,” Boo murmured.

Spot’s whiskers twitched. He marched right up to the woman’s porch, sat tall, and let out a loud, clear “HELLO!”

The woman nearly dropped her basket. “Did that cat just talk?!”

Before she could question it, Rusty stepped forward, wagging his tail. The woman’s expression softened. “Oh, you poor thing. You look so hungry.”

Rusty hesitated, then gently licked her hand.

Boo watched as woman led Rusty inside, already fetching him food and a warm blanket. Another successful mission.

The Society Grows

As the cats gathered in the alleyway afterward, Nosey bounced excitedly. “That was amazing! Can we do it again?”

Pequeña sighed. “You’re really going to keep following them, aren’t you?”

“Of course!” Nosey beamed. “They’re heroes!”

Boo gave her a long, thoughtful look. “You have potential.”

Nosey practically vibrated with excitement.

Midnight groaned. “Oh no.”

Willow chuckled. “I like her.”

Boo turned to Pequeña. “And you?”

The Chihuahua blinked. “Me? I… I guess someone has to keep an eye on Nosey.”

“Then it’s settled,” Boo said. “Welcome to the Cuthbert Catwatch Society.”

As the moon shone over the quiet town, the newly expanded team disappeared into the night, ready for their next adventure.
